Actress Elizabeth Banks is set to make her directorial debut with the sequel to hit 2012 comedy Pitch Perfect.
Banks produced the original and had a role in the film as Gail, one of the commentators at the choral competitions.
Pitch Perfect starred Anna Kendrick as a college freshman, who joins an a cappella group called the Bellas and butts heads with leader Aubrey, (Anna Camp), before the pair joined forces to lead their group to finals.
The surprise box-office smash brought in over $115 million worldwide and spawned a massive hit soundtrack too, with single Cups going triple platinum.

According to TheHollywoodReporter, Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley said of the announcement; “Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success. She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we’re thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2.”
Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are also considered likely to return to film the sequel, which is expected to be released in 2015.
