Although, it seems we may be waiting a while for it...

Bridget Jones’s Diary and follow-up The Edge of Reason were two of the most popular rom-coms to emerge over the last twenty years. Ever since Bridget left our screens, there have been questions about whether a third film would ever get the go ahead.

Well, it seems Colin Firth has given us a little hope without exactly confirming whether the project is confirmed or not. The third book is currently being written by Helen Fielding and Working Title has said it is unclear if they will be going ahead with another film, according to Digital Spy.

Firth informed the Chicago Sun Times: “Unfortunately, it might be a bit of a long wait. I wouldn’t say that it’s completely dead in the water, but the way it’s going you might be seeing Bridget Jones’ granddaughter’s story being told by the time we get there. … There is a joy of doing those movies that keeps hope alive. And the story is going in an interesting direction. I just wouldn’t say that the movie is imminent.”

Firth played Mark D’Arcy in the films which are a reworking of the classic Pride and Prejudice, but has moved on to Oscar glory since their release.

The next Bridget Jones book is expected to be released later this year.
