Coronation Street’s Cilla Battersby-Brown is set to reveal that she is suffering from osteoporosis.

The character, played by Wendi Peters, keeps her condition a secret at first before finally confiding in Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn).

The revelation explains why Cilla has returned to Weatherfield to try to reconnect with her children Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) and Chesney (Sam Aston).

Speaking about the storyline, Wendi explained: “The first thing I did was check whether larger ladies can have osteoporosis.

“I learned that it often affects people who are slightly larger because it’s due to bad diet, excess alcohol and all kinds of things like that – probably everything that you would associate Cilla with!”

She added: “It could raise awareness of osteoporosis. I’ve learned more about it myself because I always thought that it was just an old ladies’ thing, but it turns out it’s from menopause through to any age upwards.”
