Comedian Les Dennis has opened up about his new role on Coronation Street.
Dennis signed on to play petty thief Michael Rodwell, who burgled Gail McIntyre. Speaking to Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2, 60-year-old Dennis teased what was in store for his character on the popular soap.
“Gail will come and see Michael in prison in a restorative justice storyline… She comes to prison and meets Michael and asks him why he did it,” he said.
“He’s not a career burglar… he’s down on his luck, he’s lost his business, his family, everything. Maybe he’s not the monster Gail thinks he is.”

The comedian-cum-actor said that he hoped that he would be able to be on the show for the long-run.
“I think [Michael’s] going to get a family, which means you might stay if you have a family,” the star added.
Speaking about the role previously, Les said that he was “thrilled” to be joining the cast.
“It has always been my favourite television programme as it mixes high drama with some of the best comedy on screen
“I’ve loved it since the beginning. I grew up watching all the amazing characters in the show. I now not only have the chance of meeting them, but also working with them. It doesn’t get better than that”.
