Her.ie Classic Movie Pick Of The Week… The Bourne Ultimatum

Oh, this is a good one...

Sue Murphy

We can say this now with absolute certainty, the Bourne Trilogy changed the face of modern spy films. Forget your James Bond and your Jack Ryan, here was a spy film you could actually believe just may have occurred.

Bourne, played by the wonderful Matt Damon, is a rogue agent, a spy who has lost any memory of who he is but yet seems to know exactly how to handle himself in fights and under pressure.  Originally pulled onto a boat by some fishermen in the Bourne Identity, Jason has spent a large part of the trilogy trying to figure out who he is and where he came from.

Ultimatum is the final film in the trilogy, the final pieces of the puzzle, the moment when Jason Bourne will discover his true identity. Even though he is being pursued relentlessly by CIA agents who are attempting to put an end to his campaign, Bourne continues on the path to the truth.

With possibly one of the greatest action sequences you will ever see which takes place in Waterloo station, Ultimatum was a perfect end to the best action trilogy of all time. Yes, we went there.

That performance from Paddy Considine is spellbinding and if you ever need to know how a book can be used as a weapon, this is your film.

The Bourne Ultimatum screens on TV3, Saturday 25th at 9pm. We’re already watching the first two in preparation.
