We’re still not over it.
Over the years, Grey Sloan Memorial has seen its fair share of drama, destruction and death.
But that doesn’t mean that Grey’s Anatomy fans were any more prepared for the devastating twist in the midseason premiere.
Warning: Spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy’s ninth episode, Shelter From the Storm, are below this point.
The episode picked up right where the drama-filled cliffhanger last year left off, with the doctors scrambling to save the life of matchmaker Cece Colvin.
A huge windstorm swept through the area and caused power outages, leaving Meredith and DeLuca trapped in an elevator. Bailey and Helm were trapped in another elevator with Cece’s heart donor.
After plenty of nail-biting, are-they-or-aren’t-they-going-to-make-it scenes, the doctors did get to Cece in time to successfully perform the heart transplant.
However, things took a turn when the doctors were working on getting Cece her new kidney – and she passed away after she crashed on the operating table.
Grey’s Anatomy fans then watched on as in a typically heartbreaking fashion, Meredith promised Cece that she would continue dating in her honour.
Referring to her love triangle with Linc and DeLuca, Meredith told Cece:
“I nearly kissed the Italian one…I may kiss the other one, too, because I mean, look at him. I don’t know if I’ll ever find love again.
“But, I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time. I’m having fun. And when I do, I hear your voice. Thank you, Cece.”
