It just got a little hotter in the GBBO kitchen.
A trailer for the forthcoming season of BBC favourite the Great British Bake Off has been axed after a breach of copyright claim.
The video clip, which has been circulated widely on social media, teased the sixth series with judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry dancing and singing to a reworded version of The Hills Are Alive from The Sound of Music.
The reworked version of the hit, performed by Julie Andrews in the 1965 musical, included the lines: “The hills are alive with the smell of baking, with cakes that we baked for a thousand years.”
Reports today suggest that publishers of the original track, the estates of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, were unhappy that the music was used without their consent.
A spokesman for the BBC said: “The BBC used the fair dealing exception for parody under the Copyright Act in relation to the trailer. This was a legitimate use of a copyright exception and there was no breach of copyright by the BBC.”
The new season of the Great British Bake Off kicks off on Wednesday next.
