Fair City’s Aisling O’Neill praised for powerful performance

Actress Aisling O’Neill has been praised for her powerful performance on Sunday night’s Fair City.

Aisling had to deal with the issue of child abuse in the recent storyline which saw her character Carol confessing to her fiancé Robbie about her past.

In the episode which aired on Sunday night she spoke to Robbie about the abuse she was subjected to at the hand of one of her father’s friends at just 11 years of age.

The storyline saw Carol saying to Robbie:

“I want to talk to you about this. I just don’t know if I can. It’s hard.”

“I was 11, a child. Trigger hung around with the worst of the worst. One fella in particular, uncle Mika, Mika Hendricks… He wasn’t a real uncle.”

“One night I got up to go to the loo and I walked in and saw Trigger injecting me Ma. I screamed at him to leave her alone and he pointed the needle at me, threatened to stab me.”

“I ran back to me room and I pushed the bed up against the door. She was never a mother to us after that. She never protected her kids from the beatings, worse.”

“We lived in constant fear. it was a Friday. Mika showed up with another present. It was a stone washed denim jacket. I remember him saying to me, ‘where’s my hug?’, and I had to hug him. The stink off him.”

“Later on after I was sent to bed, Trigger brought me into my room and left me alone with him. Mika said that he wanted me to model the jacket for him.”

“I was scared. I was only 11. He said he’d kill Denise if I told anyone.”

Viewers have been praising Aisling for her powerful performance and how she portrayed the story.
