Eastenders To Recast One of The Squares Favourite Characters

Cassie Delaney

Eastenders bosses have confirmed that they are on the look out for a new cast member to play Johnny Carter.

“We can confirm the recasting of Johnny Carter. There is no further announcement to make at this time,” a BBC spokeswoman told the Press Association.

The son of Queen Vic residents Mick and Linda, Johnny was originally played by Sam Strike. The actor left the soap in 2014 and has since appeared in Silent Witness.

Bosses confirmed that they are eager to recast the character as upcoming story lines involving the Carter clan would benefit from his inclusion.

“The Carter family quickly became one of EastEnders’ most iconic families and there are lots of stories planned for them, but it felt it would be a shame if those stories had to be told without Johnny’s involvement,” a spokesperson told the Radio Times.

Johnny grew to be a much-loved character for his shy and quiet nature and his mammy’s boy charm. He gained much praise in the soap for the delicate scenes in which he came out to his father. He received a “spectacular scene” nomination at the British Soap Awards.
