Coronation Street fans were shocked and heartbroken last night after Lewis Archer was found dead.
Audrey Roberts made the devastating discovery after she visited his home when he didn’t show up for a dinner date at the Bistro.
He had previously been complaining of stress and shoulder pain; blaming it on Gail constantly being convinced that he was going to slip up and hurt her mum.
However, it turns out that Lewis wasn’t actually up to anything sketchy – he was actually planning to surprise Audrey with an elaborate proposal, nine years to the day from their first date.
"He was going to ask me to marry him and I would have said yes."
Poor Audrey, Lewis really did love her in the end 💔#Gail #Audrey #Lewis #Corrie pic.twitter.com/aAYnHxoNd6

Audrey wept as she sat on the floor, telling Gail what she had found beside Lewis’ body.
“He was going to ask me to marry him, and I was going to say yes. That was our honeymoon,” she said as she took the travel information from her daughter’s hands.
Gail tried to comfort her mum, but Audrey told her to leave and that she needed space and it was best she didn’t see her for “a while”.
She added:
“He was so fed up with you, really. He was tired of being haunted; he’d had enough. And so have I, so have I. “
Coronation Street fans were heartbroken for Audrey after she made the devastating discovery – especially as it was the 20th anniversary of Alf’s death.
Oh no! They can't kill him off 😥😯😢 Poor Audrey #Corrie

Twenty years to the day since Alfie died, not a good date for Audrey Roberts #corrie

However, some others weren’t quite convinced that Lewis was actually dead.
#corrie #Lewis Was the ring for Audrey though? What if only his passport is there with two tickets for him and another? 🤷♀️

When I expected Audrey to find Lewis gone, I didn't think gone as in dead? Too convenient. Something fishy… #corrie

Anyone else expecting an 'Only fools and horses' type ending for Lewis? 2 ambulances turn up. The 1st is fake and he's fine. #Corrie #Lewis
