CONFIRMED: Shayne Ward Has Landed a Role in Coronation Street

"It still hasn't sunk in."

It’s official, X Factor winner Shayne Ward has signed a one-year contract with Coronation Street

The man who gave us such cheesy pop gems as No Promises and Breathless is now turning his talents to acting and, if his Twitter account is anything to go by, he can’t wait to grace the Weatherfield cobbles.

The 30-year-old will play Aidan Connor, a distant cousin of Michelle who grew up on the same estate as her and no-nonsense businesswoman Carla Connor.

Shayne will begin filming for the role next month and will make his soap debut in August. His introduction ties in with Carla’s problems at the factory.

No doubt many hearts will flutter when Shayne arrives on the small screen, but it looks like he might be the most excited one of all about the news.

He said in a statement: “On hearing the news I had been offered the part on the show I was in total disbelief. It still hasn’t sunk in.”

Shayne rose to fame after winning the X Factor in 2005

The pop star added: “My family and friends know just how much this means to me and I cannot wait to do them all proud. 2015 has been a great year for me so far and I look forward to joining the Coronation Street family.”

As for a possible onscreen romance, Shayne isn’t ruling anything out, revealing: “I’ve done that kind of thing in videos, I’d be completely up for it, with Sarah or anybody … maybe Rita!”

Anyone else kinda want to audition for Corrie right about now?
