by Genna Patterson

Directed by Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life and The Thin Red Line), To The Wonder is a tale of a man torn between two loves. Ben Affleck is Neil, a man who brings his European wife Marina (Olga Kurylenko) to Oklahoma but reconnects with an old flame Jane (Rachel McAdams) when his marriage hits a tough spot. Javier Bardem is Father Quintana, a priest struggling with his vocation who befriends Marina when they realize they are both foreign exiles.

The director, Malick explores the different phases of love in this movie, from passion to obligation, from indecision to destruction. Rachel McAdams is always bankable as a female lead – remember The Notebook or The Time Travellers Wife? Ben Affleck is generally better off-camera and in the directors chair, but we’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Christian Bale was initially lined up for the role of Neil, but pulled out due to scheduling conflicts.

To The Wonder is released on 22nd February. Check out the trailer to see more.
