This incredibly powerful documentary about sexual assault is available on Netflix from today

Shining a light on a very modern problem.

A very important documentary is coming to Netflix.

In recent years, as Netflix has become hugely popular, much of its own content has been interesting and thought-provoking – from Making a Murderer to My Beautiful Broken Brain, the streaming service is producing some seriously well-made, fascinating content.

This next feature, which will be coming to Netflix in September, is no exception.

Audrie And Daisy is a documentary which tells the shocking tale of two young girls whose lives were ruined after one fateful night.

The teenagers attended parties, drank alcohol, and passed out  – and were then sexually assaulted by men whom they initially thought were their friends.

The story takes an even more tragic turn as it is later discovered that the crimes were documented on phones, and that images and videos of the events were shared.

The story examines the ripple effects on families, friends, schools, and communities in the aftermath of the assaults.

What is interesting about this documentary, which debuted at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, is that it’s one of the first times that the cruel, dangerous world of social media is looked at in terms of sexual consent.

While it certainly doesn’t look like an easy watch, it is incredibly important and puts a spotlight on rape and the unjust legal system that often comes with sexual assault.

Audrie and Daisy will be available on Netflix on September 23.
