Look with all that’s going on in the world today I’m certain you’ve eclipsed your tolerance for everyday sexism but alas, there’s more.
I’m sorry, I don’t make the news, I just report it.
The casting call was released by an LA-based agency and picked up by the Women and Hollywood blog.
It reads:
“Casting Whores for Quentin Tarantino project. Caucasian, non-union females, ages 18–35. Western film shoots June 21st-25th in Los Angeles. No highlights, natural eyebrows, natural breasts, natural hair color to be true to the period. Dress sizes 2–8. Please send a photo, including sizes.”
So yeah, I mean there’s so much wrong with the statement it’s hard to know where to begin.
As The Women in Hollywood blog state:
Putting a casting call out for, or including women in your script with the description of “whores,” is not OK. Nor is asking actresses to submit their photos and information for consideration with the subject line “Whore.”
The Women and Hollywood blog reached out to the agency who said while Tarantino is not directing the project, he is producing, and that the use of the word “whores” came directly from the script (which we’ve been told was written and will be directed by a woman).
The ad has since been deleted.
It is unclear what the film is or who the cast are behind it.
