Straight after the X Factor show on Sunday night, Gary Barlow boarded a plane to visit troops in Afganistan.
The 42-year old flew to see members of the Army, Navy and RAF and filmed an ITV special with them on Monday.
‘He spent lots of time meeting people on the front-line and enjoyed chatting to them. On the show, he will be finding out what life is like in camp,’ a source tells the Daily Mirror.
‘He listened to their stories and they told him how much they missed their families. He even performed some songs. Lots of the servicemen and women were saying his visit was a real boost.’
Gary also took lots of photos with the servicemen.
He held up a piece of paper reading: ‘Hello Peyton. Daddy misses you loads xxx’ for the lucky daughter of one soldier to read at home.
‘You just met my Dad and had a photograph with my EP! I would LOVE to email or send it to you? DAY MADE!’ , tweeted a fan back in the UK.
