What A Hero: Prince Harry Prepares For Biggest Endurance Test Yet

We promise to stop complaining about the cold weather after learning of the prince's latest challenge

Ireland is pretty darn cold this week but it’s nothing compared to Prince Harry’s experience as he prepares for his 208 mile race to the South Pole.

The handsome prince spent 20 hours in a freezer chamber at -31F to help him prepare for the tortuous conditions the race will entail.

Harry seemed to be in good spirits after emerging from the giant freezer but according to Sky News temperatures within the testing facility can drop as low as -55C.

The prince, who is patron of the Walking with the Wounded charity, will race with a team of injured British servicemen and women against competitors from the US and the Commonwealth

The new uncle will head to the South Pole in late November for the 15 day challenge, was said to have been “great” during the training exercise.

Prince Harry in training for a huge endurance test

Maj Philp, from Knightwick in Worcestershire told Sky News: “He’s experienced at this, having spent some time at the North Pole also. “He knows what he’s doing. He’s got his military training, and it’s very, very easy, so he’s a good extra pair of hands.”

Insisting Harry was just a member of the team and wasn’t getting any special treatment, he went on: “Oh God, absolutely. We wouldn’t let it be any other way and he wouldn’t want it to be any other way.

“It’s great having Harry along, and hopefully he appreciates it too. It’s a chance not just for him to experience all the practical stuff that we’ve just done as well, but for us to get together as a team and start to get to know each other better.”
