Singer Anastacia has had a double mastectomy as she is battling cancel for the second time.
The 45-year old battled cancer in 2003 and was given the all-clear, but the disease returned this year.
“In light of Breast Cancer Awareness Month l wanted to take the opportunity to support a cause particularly close to my heart,” she said in a statement.
“l was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time earlier this year and am currently in the final stages of recovery after undergoing a double mastectomy.”
“It has been an intense journey but l am feeling great and ready to start the next chapter.”
Her breast cancer was first diagnosed when she had a routine mammogram before planned breast reduction surgery.
The Left Outside Alone singer had a partial mastectomy followed by six weeks of radiotherapy.
Anastacia is battling cancer for the second time
After finding out in February of this year that the cancer had returned, Anastacia was forced to cancer her tour.
There is no history of cancer in the singer’s family and Anastacia has previously spoken out about whether her stressful lifestyle and intense work schedule contributed to her breast cancer.
“More and more women today are getting cancer which is not gene related. I’m sure it was stress which caused mine.”
“The not-so-great relationship I was in and my career – it all became too much for me. I’m not really made for this business. I don’t really know how to be the star my record company always wanted me to be,” she said.
