The thieves who stole Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscars dress are said to have returned it to the hotel from which it was stolen after finding out the pearls are fake.
According to TMZ the culprits put the custom Calvin Klein gown, which was rumoured to be worth around $150,000, in a rubbish bag and returned it to The London West Hollywood on Friday.
The website claims that a man phoned them to say he had taken the dress from the actress’ room when he noticed that the door was open.
The anonymous caller revealed that he and his cronies removed some of the pearls to get them valued by a jewellery expert who said they were fake.
Speaking about the rumoured return of the gown, Lupita said: “I’m happy that it has been potentially recovered. It is a timeless and priceless piece of art.”
