We all follow at least one celebrity on social media, but who would you say is the most influential?

The folks over at Meteor have revealed who people think are the most influential Irish personalities on social media and some of the results are quite surprising.

When it comes to female celebrities on social media Pippa O’Connor has been voted the most influential, followed by Amy Huberman and Suzanne Jackson.

For the men then, Conor McGregor has topped the polls as the most influential male social media personality in Ireland. Also joining him in the top three are Brian O’Driscoll and Cian Twomey.

When it came to the over-45s who were questioned, Rory McIlroy was named the most influential by men, while Pippa O’Connor didn’t rate at all for the women.

When asked about trusting a recommendation from an influencer online, women admitted to having greater trust in social media personalities than men, with nearly two-thirds of them saying they would be likely to buy a product recommended by an influencer versus only half of men.

In terms of news consumption, just under half the people surveyed say they ‘get most of their news’ from social network links, over a third get it from online news sites and a fifth say they get it from traditional news sources.

Meteor conducted the research as part of their exciting new campaign, inviting people into the wonderful world of Meteor Secret HQ, where the internet lives.
