The Spice Girls Are Taking to the Stage Again

They were icons during the nineties and now they have a musical coming out based on their rise to fame. Let's hear it for the Spice Girls.

Every woman who grew up during the nineties know who they are and so too do girls who have grown up in this millennium.

And now they have made a stage show based on their rise to fame which goes to prove that the Spice Girls are still regarded as one of the biggest girl bands of all time.

In homage to their legacy here is why we still love them all these years later…

  1. Back at the very beginning when the Spice Girls first started out they were just normal girls chasing a dream that every girl had. There was nothing special about any of them and for that reason you could relate to them.
  2. Whether you liked them or not you have to admit that they had good catchy songs. Who didn’t sing along to ‘2 Become 1’ and throw the dance moves for ‘Stop’ when it came on the radio? We’ll tell you who. Nobody!
  3. They always put on a memorable performance on stage. In fact the performance they did during the 1997 Brit Awards, during which Geri wore that Union Jack dress, was one of the music highlights of the decade.
  4. Girl power was created by the Spice Girls. It seemed that once they came along, having a best friend was the best thing ever and being a strong young woman was cool. They were definitely modern day feminists.
  5. Perhaps times have changed and there is more pressure on women in the music industry these days but the Spice Girls were not afraid to be themselves. They didn’t pretend to be something else and that was liberating to see.
  6. Most of them have enjoyed success outside of the band. All of them launched solo music careers and enjoyed at least some degree of success. Also Victoria Beckham has made an incredible transition into the world of fashion.
  7. You could choose from Baby, Scary, Sporty, Ginger and Posh. There was one girl for each personality. Not that they tried, or we are saying that they, typecast women but they put a range of personalities out there. They were good role models.
  8. We have to admit that they all still look incredible. In fact, they probably look and dress better than they did back in the day. They have swapped funky for stylish and we applaud them for taking care of themselves.

At the risk of sounding incredibly cheesy, we do hope they ‘Viva Forever’ because we still adore them and secretly play their CDs in the car. And if you don’t you really should!
