After they were spotted looking rather cosy at an awards ceremony last month, Ellie Goulding immediately denied reports she was dating Ed Sheeran.
However, the red haired singer-songwriter had a different version of events when he was interviewed on US radio show Clock 98.9. When asked about Ellie, he revealed that they had been dating, “I mean, normal people don’t hold hands if they’re just friends.”
Ed was also open about the romance admitting it was short-lived, “It was going on and now it’s not. “
When the rumours began after Ed’s hand was spotted on Ellie’s thigh at the VMA’s, the Burn singer took to Twitter to deny the fling.

In a tweet written that night which she later deleted, “I love that holding hands with my friends means we’re an item. She then went on to tweet, “In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef**k.”
Ed doesn’t seem to be too affected by the break-up claiming this is what gives him song material. “Me not doing this [dating] game means that I write a lot of songs about not doing this game, so it all works out.”
