Rumour has it that David Beckham is going to be given a knighthood after he made the nominations for the New Year’s Honours list.
According to the Daily Mail, officials will carry out standard checks before he is officially confirmed for the title.
As part of the approval process, Beckham’s fortune will be taken into consideration as one of the factors for knighthood.
“HM Revenue and Customs look at the higher honours – specifically at the high earners like sports people – to see if there is anything they want to double check,” a source told the Sun.
It’s not surprising really that Beckham would be up for the honour, he currently holds the title of OBE for his services to football.
Beckham is also involved in a number of charitable organisations, including WildAid, and has various ambassadorial commitments.
If he does receive the honour, it means Victoria will become “Lady Victoria”. She will only love that.
