Singer Bernie Nolan has sadly lost her battle with cancer, aged 52.

The lead singer of Irish band The Nolans lost her 10-month battle with the disease this morning, BBC reports. She was diagnosed with cancer for the second time last October, after previously beating breast cancer in 2010.

Bernie, married to Steve Doneathy and mum of 14-year-old Erin, was being cared for in a hospice but returned home to be with her family this week.

She released her bestselling autobiography, Now And Forever, earlier this year. It documented her life and her cancer battles.

Although best known for being in The Nolans, Bernie also acted in both Brookside and The Bill.

Bernie said she refused to sit around “with a sentence on her head”.

Bernie let everyone know she vowed to fight the cancer for as long as she could.

She told the Sunday Mirror last year, “OK, it’s not curable. But the doctors have promised me the cancer is treatable, it’s containable.

“I’m on medication which is controlling it, and people have lived for 12 years on these drugs. Who knows what new treatments are around the corner?

“I refuse to sit around like I’ve got a death sentence hanging over my head. I’m going to fight this for ever. It can get stuffed.”
