Following news that Shayne Ward was set to join the action on the cobbles, the pop star turned actor has revealed his first scenes are set to air this August.
The singer, who will play the role of Aidan – Michelle’s cousin – has started filming episodes for the ITV soap, revealing to ITV’s This Morning:
“I play Aidan. My family moves to Spain and I get a phonecall that she’s (his on-screen cousin Michelle O’Connor) in some trouble and I head to the street”.
The singer has teased that the role and his accompanying storyline is bigger than originally expected, telling the Manchester Evening News:
“I am looking forward to August when my first scene is aired. I’m going to focus on this role and bring Aidan to life.
“I didn’t realise how large this role was, storyline-wise. There is a lot going on without a doubt.”
Shayne will be joined on screen by fellow pop-star Sarah harding, who is filming her guest appearance on the soap.
The 33-year old is set to play the girlfriend of Tracy Barlow’s ex-husband Robert Preston, though show bosses have hinted the relationship isn’t going well.
However, contrary to previous reports, Shayne won’t be playing the love interest of Sarah Harding.
Dispelling the rumours, he said: “No, that’s not true at all”.
