Russell Brand Uses Homophobic Slur While Addressing Cambridge Student Union

A controversial comment

Cathy Donohue

Russell Brand made a homophobic comment while addressing a group of Cambridge University students last night, branding them ‘Harry Potter p**fs’.

The comedian had been looking at the college’s crests before making the statement but judging by their tweets, the students didn’t seem to be too bothered.

One user wrote: ‘Russell Brand @rustyrockets telling a bunch of “Harry Potter p**fs” to start a revolution. Not bad for a Monday night’.

Another said: ‘Shut up you Harry Potter p**fs’ HAHAHHAA’.

Brand was invited to speak by the head of the student body and urged the pupils to make the most of their education and use it for the benefit of the world.

‘Use this education that you are receiving to bring about ideas that can benefit not just you but all of us’.

He also criticised the British government for ripping the people off, ‘Give us something to vote for then we will vote for it,’ Brand said. ‘Give us a system that is truly representative.’

Ben Summerskill, Chief Executive of lesbian, gay and bisexual equality charity Stonewall told The Independent: “We’re disinclined to satisfy Mr Brand’s uncharacteristic thirst for publicity by offering any further comment.”
