Queen Elizabeth will be the first to know when Meghan gives birth, and here’s why

Interesting.

The lovely Meghan Markle is due to welcome her first child in the Spring of 2019.

And we’re all very excited about it.

However, we recently learned that Queen Elizabeth will be the first person to know when Meghan gives birth.

Royal tradition stipulates that the reigning monarch must be the first to learn of the birth of any royal baby.

After Queen Elizabeth hears the happy news, it is the town crier’s job to announce it to the world.

Tony Appleton, who is the current town crier, will be the person announcing the birth, by placing a small billboard outside Buckingham Palace.

This is a tradition that has been around since medieval times.

Royal birthing traditions have been less rigid over the years, which is refreshing.

Back in the day, royal fathers were not allowed to be present during labour, but this rule was relaxed after Prince Charles was born.

Royal babies were also traditionally born at home, but this went out the window when Princess Diana was expecting.

William and Harry’s late-mum was the first royal to give birth in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London.

It is rumoured that Meghan will also give birth in the Lindo Wing.
