This cultural tradition is taken very seriously.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry arrived in Fiji today and were given a traditional welcome with an official ceremony.
The Kava ceremony is held to welcome guests to the country and from their expressions, it’s clear that Harry and Meghan were bowled over by the reception they received.

However, there’s one thing that is causing controversy and that’s an item included in Meghan’s outfit, her hat.
Custom in Fiji dictates that people attending a ceremony such as this do not wear hats as a mark of respect but as you’ll see from photos of the reception, Meghan wore a white hat as part of her outfit.

Rebecca English, Royal Correspondent for the Daily Mail, shared updates from the ceremony on Twitter and it wasn’t long before people started asking why Meghan was flouting the rules.
But…Meghan is wearing a hat…
Or is the nothing-on-the-head rule for everyone else?— Molly (@mollyfleck) October 23, 2018
Now we’re sure there was some loophole that meant the mum to be wearing a hat in this instance was permissible but this hasn’t stopped speculation arising that the royal broke one of the country’s cultural traditions.
Harry and Meghan have two more days left in Fiji and according to Cosmopolitan, they will split up during this time with both of them having separate engagements to attend to.
