Multi-Award Winning Actress Passes Away aged 87

She passed away at her home in Massachusetts.

Acclaimed actress Julie Harris who was both a star of stage and screen has died at the age of 87.

The US actress won five Tony Awards and was best known for her roles on Broadway. She jointly holds the record for most Tony Award wins.

Harris had five other nominations, making her the most nominated performer in the awards’ history.

The actress won her first Tony for portraying Sally Bowles in I Am A Camera. Her second Tony was awarded to her for her performance as Joan of Arc and then further awards for Forty Carats, The Last Of Mrs. Lincoln and The Belle Of Amherst.

Angela Lansbury and Audra McDonald are the only other actors to have won five Tonys.

The talented actress also won three Emmy Awards for her television performances.

She appeared in more than 30 films including alongside James Dean as his love interest in East of Eden.

Harris died at her home in Massachusetts due to congestive heart failure said fellow actress and friend Francesca James speaking to the Associated Press.

She received a special lifetime achievement Tony back in 2002. May she rest in peace.
