Lord Sugar has come under fire after he responded to a plus-size model fan labelling her ‘fatty’ on his Twitter account.
The Apprentice boss was at the centre of a Twitter row after responding to one fan with a message many followers deemed ‘cruel’ and ‘hateful’.
23-year old plus size beauty queen Elena Raouna tweeted the business tycoon late Sunday evening, hoping to catch Lord Sugar’s eye. She definitely wasn’t expecting his response though:
.@ElenaRaouna RT:evening sugar 😉 can I call you that? Lol….. yes no problem as long as I can call you fatty
— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) January 5, 2015
The comment has since been retweeted nearly 1,500 times, with over 900 favourites.
The model is now asking for a public apology from the entrepreneur for his attempts to fat shame her to his 3.8million followers. Elena revealed she also attempted to respond but was later blocked by Lord Sugar.
Speaking to The Mirror newspaper, Elena said:
“I’m still absolutely fuming. It was so cruel. I can see people joking about it online and it’s as if he’s sent out a message to his followers saying it’s ok to call people fat.
“It was just a friendly tweet to say ‘hi’ but my face froze in shock with his reply and I had to check it was his official Twitter page because I couldn’t believe he would be so abusive.
“I’m a size 16, which is the average size for a woman. He is not just putting me down but most of the women in this country!”
The model, who won the Miss British Beauty Curve 2013 title, feels betrayed by Sugar who was acting in a ‘cruel’ way for a role model.
A spokesman for Lord Sugar has refused to make any comment on the Twitter remarks made on Sunday night.
