She may be the actress touted for promoting positive body image, but Kate Winslet has admitted her body confidence only came in her adult life.
Speaking to Bear Grylls ahead of his new NBC show Running Wild With Bear Grylls, the 39-year old said:
“When I grew up, I never heard positive reinforcement about body image from any female in my life – I only heard negatives.
“That’s very damaging, because then you’re programmed as a young woman to immediately scrutinise yourself and how you look.”
The Oscar-winning actress decided to make a conscious effort to change that for her daughter Mia, and works hard to instil a positive healthy body image in the teen.
Rather than getting caught up in a celebrity ideal, Kate revealed she regularly turns to her 14-year old daughter and points out all her daughter’s positives:
“I stand in front of the mirror and say to Mia, ‘We are so lucky we have a shape. We’re so lucky we’re curvy. We’re so lucky we’ve got good bums,’ and she’ll say, ‘Mummy, I know, thank God’.”
