Jim Carrey has paid tribute to his former girlfriend, Irish make-up artist Cathriona White, following news of her death this evening.
The 28-year old, who was found dead at her home on Monday night in Los Angeles County, is believed to have died by suicide.
Numerous media outlets have reported that White was found unresponsive by a friend, who alerted authorities on Monday evening.
Police confirmed a note was found at the scene of her death.
In a release issued by Jim Carrey to Fox News, the actor paid tribute to the ‘truly kind and delicate Irish flower’:
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
The pair, who originally started dating in 2012, were believed to have an on-off relationship.
White originally moved to the United States from Ireland to pursue her interests as a make-up artist and actress.
