James Bond actor Ben Whishaw has officially come out as gay.

In a statement that was obtained by the Daily Mail it was confirmed that the “Skyfall” actor has also been married to his partner, Australian composer Mark Bradshaw, for the past year.

The British star, played “Q” in Skyfall is set to reprise the role in Bond 24. He has been known to be very discreet about his private life.

“Ben has never hidden his sexuality, but like many actors he prefers not to discuss his family or life outside of his work,” his spokesman told the newspaper last Friday.

“Due to speculation, I can confirm that Ben and Mark entered into a civil partnership in August 2012. They were proud to do so and are very happy.”

The couple reportedly met on the set of Jane Campion’s 2009 film Bright Star where Bradshaw was the composer. The actor has been questioned about his sexuality before.

Speaking in an interview to promote Skyfall, the actor briefly spoke about his private life saying:

“For me, it’s important to keep a level of anonymity. As an actor, your job is to persuade people that you’re someone else. So if you’re constantly telling people about yourself, I think you’re shooting yourself in the foot.”

Whishaw’s announcement follows on the recent tweet of actress Raven-Symone where she appeared to reveal that she is also gay.
