Television star Sarah Hyland has reportedly been granted a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, actor Matthew Prokop.
The 23-year-old actress, who plays Haley Dunphy in hit show Modern Family, claims that Prokop was abusive towards her during the last four years of their five-year relationship.
According to court documents filed by Hyland, and obtained by TMZ, Prokop pinned her against a car during an argument. She claims that he choked her and called her names during the incident.
She stated: “His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life.”

Hyland explains in the papers that she asked her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen (who plays her onscreen mother) to help her end the relationship peacefully.
Apparently Hyland bought Prokop a plane ticket home to Texas but when he arrived to an intervention, he lost his temper before throwing a lighter at Hyland. This is when Bowne stepped in and told Hyland to leave the house.
Hyland also alleges that Prokop threatened to set one of her homes on fire and made threats involving her pet dog.

After they split, she claims the abuse didn’t stop. She stated: “(he) relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats.”
Hyland said that Prokop entered rehab in August, after which she received a call from an employee at the facility telling her to get a restraining order due to his mental state.
The couple, who met at the auditions of High School Musical 3: Senior Year back in 2008, broke up earlier this year. Prokop must stay at least 100 yards away from Hyland and her dog at all times.
