Iconic American singer and recording artist Eydie Gormé has passed away at a hospital in Las Vegas. She was 84.
The singer who was known for singing everything from ballads to duets is survived by her husband and fellow musician Steve Lawrence.
“Eydie Gormé passed away peacefully today at Sunrise Hospital following a brief illness,” her spokesman Howard Bragman said to People Magazine.
“She was surrounded by her husband, son and other loved ones at the time of her death.”
Gormé, who won an Emmy and a Grammy, had a huge solo hit back in 1963 with “Blame it on the Bossa Nova.”
In his own statement, her husband Steve Lawrence said: “Eydie has been my partner on stage and in life for more than 55 years. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her and even more the first time I heard her sing.”
“While my personal loss is unimaginable, the world has lost one of the greatest pop vocalists of all time.”
Eydie Gormé, born August 16th 1928, died August 10th 2013. May she rest in peace.
