Graham Norton has been given a warning by the BBC for wearing a World AIDS Day ribbon on his chat show on November 29th.

According to Digital Spy, the talk show host is a huge supporter of World AIDS Day, an issue he “cares passionately about.”

According to the BBC guidelines however, members of staff are supposed to remain “independent and distanced from government initiatives, campaigners, charities and their agendas”. The broadcaster later confirmed they had given a warning to Graham and his company So Television.

“World AIDS Day is an issue which Graham cares passionately about and he did wear a World AIDS Day insignia on his programme,” the BBC confirmed.

“However, this is in breach of BBC guidelines. The production company has been contacted and reminded that he cannot do this and Graham has accepted he was wrong to do so. The BBC has been assured it will not occur again.”

Currently, the only exemption to the BBC rules is the poppy, which is worn for Remembrance Day or the Royal British Legion.
