Girl power was brought to the next level at the Olympics as the Irish females kicked up a sporting storm at the weekend.
Bray boxer Katie Taylor went one step closer to winning a gold medal at the Olympics after hammering British boxer Natasha Jonas 26-15 in their quarter-final yesterday.
Katie is now guaranteed a bronze medal but is fighting for the gold.
Speaking to the Irish Star, four-time world champion Katie, 26, said; “I am going for a gold medal and nothing else!”

After the match, Katie’s opponent said; “The only way I would have beaten here was throwing the kitchen sink or driving a bus over her!”
Elsewhere, there was agony in the water for 22-year-old Annalise Murphy, who finished fourth in her Laser race, despite leading the gorup for most of the week. She just missed the bronze medal.

One Direction’s Niall Horan revealed his happiness for Katie Taylor’s win yesterday, calling the Bray girl a “legend”.
“Katie Taylor you are a legend! Irish boxing is on fire!,” the popstar tweeted.
MTV presenter, and our very own Her.ie columnist, Laura Whitmore got wrapped up in the Taylor match excitement and tweeted; “Unbelievable! I had goosebumps!”.

Boyzone singer Ronan said; “Congrats Katie #irishpride” and Today FM radio DJ Ian Dempsey called the female boxer “a national treasure” and “word class.”
RTE presenter Miriam O’Callaghan said Katie was her hero and she also received congratulations from Dustin the Turkey and Amy Huberman.
