The Emmy Awards took place last night, the perfect excuse for Hollywood’s elite to don their glad rags.
Airy pastel shades were popular with many stars choosing pale pinks, blues and creams.
Kerry Washington of Django Unchained was recently declared Best Dressed Woman in the world by People magazine and her cream lace Marchesa gown was one of the talking points of the night. The designers are renowned for their stunning fairy-tale creations and this floaty number with stunning back detail did not disappoint.
January Jones opted for a dusky pink Givenchy gown and curled her hair in a vintage style. “They made this for me so I had to pick it,” the Mad Men star told E!
Zooey Deschanel wore an ice blue J Mendel creation with a thigh spilt which she paired with towering platform heels. Claire Danes of Homeland fame also wowed on the night, dressed in a floaty Armani Prive gown. With stunning diamante detail and custom made Louboutins, she truly was belle of the ball.
Rose Byrne made headlines for all the right reasons in a dusky pink cut gown which showed off her toned abs to perfection, proof that sometimes simple is the best approach. Game of Throne’s Emilia Clarke also wowed in a custom made Donna Karan Atelier creation in the palest of blue shades. The silver belt accentuated her tiny waist and she looked phenomenal.
These were the hits but there were a number of misses too. We absolutely love Girls star Lena Dunham but her fashion sense often leaves a lot to be desired. Take her example, the floral Prada gown she chose for last night’s event. It swamped her figure and the print was loud and garish, a lesson in how not to do floral.
Heidi Klum, although stunningly gorgeous, chose a maroon glittering gown featuring a bizarre neckline that looked a tad ridiculous. Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery too, opted for a voluminous two tone Prada number that just made her look dowdy and unfashionable. Although it was a stunning design, the colouring did nothing for her pale skin tone and washed her out.
TV Presenter Cat Deeley, who can usually be counted on to get it right when it comes to style, opted for a shiny black number that can only be compared to a bin bag, even she can’t get away with such a look. Former USA X Factor judge Paula Abdul also opted for a shiny silver dress that had way too much in common with tinfoil to be considered stylish.
