He might have taken it a step too far with his private ‘Lady In Red’ performance for the newly-engaged couple, but Chris de Burgh has said he will spare no expense to see his daughter Rosanna Davison tie the knot in style next year.
The singer last night paid tribute after Wesley Quirke’s proposal to ex-Miss World Rosie with a customised €40,000 sparkler.
Chris took to Facebook yesterday and said: “Many thanks for all your good wishes for my daughter Rosanna and Wes Quirke, who announced their engagement yesterday, on the beautiful island of Mauritius… so romantic!!”
De Burgh flew out to the island just before New Year’s Eve and has been sending fans regular updates from the family’s annual trip to the sun.
He tweeted: “A beautiful golden sunset has merged with the pinks and reds of dusk, made even better with a chilled Gin and Tonic (Gordon’s Gin of course..) with feet in the warm sand and the ocean gently lapping against toes..a dream!!”

Ahh, Chris, you’re just making us very jealous now…
The De Burgh’s have taken their annual break on the Indian Ocean island every Christmas and New Year for the past 18 years.
And the private performance? Sixty-four-year-old Chris serenaded the Rosanna and Wesley with his most famous song, ‘Lady In Red’, after their engagement. He said he can’t wait to officially welcome Wes into the family.
Rosanna, 28, told the Irish Sun last night: “We haven’t set a date yet but we’re looking at summer 2014 as a possibility. We’re happy to enjoy the engagement.”
Rosanna laughed when asked would her dad be performing at the wedding and said, “I’m sure there will be a song or two! He’s so happy and excited for us, he’s thrilled.”
Rosanna described the moment Wesley got down on one knee at the Le Saint Geran Hotel on the north-east coast of the island.
“He got down on one knee after a walk on the beach and then we celebrated with the family with a glass of champagne.
“The setting couldn’t have been more romantic and special, we are delighted!”
Businessman Wes was similarly smitten after his leading lady said yes, tweeting: “So happy to be engaged to my best friend who I love so much… party time.”
We have exclusive photos of the sparkler here.
Celebs including Grainne Seoige, Georgia Salpa, Andrea Roche and Brian Kennedy all sent the couple messages of congratulations.
