Calvin Harris has cancelled his scheduled opening performance at tonight’s MTV EMAs.
Scottish born multi-award winning producer Harris was due to open the festivities, which are being held in the SSE Hydro, Glasgow, however he has been forced to cancel last minute.
The 30-year-old was one of the biggest names of the talented star-studded line-up to be announced.
On their official Facebook page, MTV confirmed the news “We have some really sad news. Calvin Harris has taken ill and will not be able to perform at tomorrow’s show. He sends his sincere apologies. Get well soon, Calvin!”
Harris sent a message to fans on Twitter noting “heart problems” as his reason for pulling out of the show.
The tweet, which has since been deleted read: “No EMAs for me this weekend. Got some heart problems. Heading home to see if it can be fixed.”
One of the biggest global music events of the year, the MTV EMA’s pays tribute to artists from all around the globe across an array of genres, bringing together music fans from all corners of the world for one incredible music experience.
Taking to the stage are some of the greatest breakthrough acts of the year that include our absolute favourites, Royal Blood.
The British rock duo’s meteoric rise to success saw them release a self-titled debut album that chartered in at no.1, both in Ireland and the UK, perform at Glastonbury festival and open for Arctic Monkey’s at Dublin’s Marlay Park.
Music legends U2 are also set to rock the stage, with Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande confirmed to perform.
Queen of hip-hop Nicki Minaj will be the hostess with the very mostess at this year’s award ceremony.
Hideaway hit-maker Kiesza, who has been nominated in the Best New, Best Video, Best Push and Best Canadian Act categories and Brit sensation Charli XCX, who has also received Best Push and Best New nominations, are set to perform live.
The 2014 MTV EMA will broadcast tonight, November 9th at 9pm.
