American actress Alyssa Milano has been praised for helping save an abused dog in South Korea.
In April 2013 CARE, a South Korean animal rescue group, found an abandoned dog attached to a pole with sores all over his body.
The Jindo-mix dog was being prepared for dog-meat slaughter and after his rescue CARE workers named him Bomi, the Korean word for spring.
CARE then contacted the Fuzzy Pet Foundation, a rescue organisation based in California.
They needed help with funding to fly Bombi to California and find him a home which is where Alyssa stepped in.
“They contacted me and said that they were trying to get that dog over here, and would I be willing to help, support, fund, whatever? And I said, ‘Of course!’ ” Milano told PEOPLE at Audi’s Golden Globes Awards celebration on Thursday in Los Angeles.
“My heart goes out to the countless other dogs and cats who are suffering from animal abuse, struggling to survive on the streets, or waiting in animal shelters for a quality home,” said Alyssa according to Radar Online.
Alyssa has ten rescue horses and four rescue dogs of her own and the Foundation revealed that she paid for Bombi’s flight.
It took a while to organise but Bombi was flown to Los Angeles in November where he was placed in a foster home.
