Author Sue Townsend has sadly passed away.
A close friend of the family told BBC News that the 68-year-old died at her home yesterday (Thursday) after a short illness.
Townsend was best known for penning the Adrian Mole book series, the first of which, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, aged 13 ¾, was published in 1982.
