Winter Blues: Beauty Tips For The Cold Spell

Cathy Donohue

Heavy rainfall and bitter cold spells can play havoc with our beauty routines so we have devised a few tips to keep you looking at your best this season.

If you’re not looking after yourself properly you immediately become more susceptible to the common cold, flu virus and a general feeling of lethargy and disinterest.

Diet is important all year round but we need to take special care during winter as the cold and wet weather can have a detrimental effect on our immune systems.

If you aren’t feeling well it tends to have a direct effect on how you look. Follow these tips to make sure you stay healthy and glowing for the winter period.

Up your fruit and vegetable intake

A sufficient daily intake of vitamins and minerals is essential to ensure your immune system is healthy. One of the easiest ways to do this during the cold winter months is making soup. You can use a variety of vegetables and it’s a wholesome nutritious meal that fills you up while keeping you warm. A stir fry is another healthy yet quick option and if some of the vegetables you like aren’t in season, then frozen vegetables are nutritious and convenient too.

Breakfast is essential

Like it or not, beginning your morning with a healthy meal is very important. It gives you energy and sets you up for the day ahead. Some people can’t face eating breakfast in the morning but even a piece of fruit is better than nothing. A healthy, convenient and tasty breakfast option is Kellog’s Special K Multigrain Porridge. It is a healthy breakfast option, ideal on these cold winter mornings. When consumed with low fat or slim line milk, Special K Multi-Grain Porridge is one of the lowest calorie breakfast options available.

Detox time

Hot lemon and water has long been recommended as a drink that cleanses the system. It aids digestion, boosts the immune system and hydrates the lymph system by replacing fluids. While it may be too much to ask you to sacrifice your morning coffee, try to have some hot lemon water before you succumb to the caffeine buzz… at least a couple of mornings a week. That will help to keep those sluggish feelings at bay.

Some like it hot

If you can at all, try to prepare a hot meal in the evenings. When you neglect your diet, it quickly tells on your body. No one is expecting a gourmet dish but a vegetable omelette is easy to make, healthy and provides a warm comforting meal. Packed with protein, vitamins and minerals…this is the ideal meal on the go.
