We all have facial features that we feel insecure about. Fact. Whether it’s our acne, our nose or our distinct lack of cheekbones, there is always one area that we wish we could change ever-so-slightly.
Here at Her.ie Headquarters we’re firm believers that you, (yes, you!) are absolutely perfect exactly as you are. However, we know that insecurity can be annoying – it can stop us from living our lives to the absolute fullest.
We don’t believe in changing ourselves to fit an unrealistic ideal when it comes to beauty, but we do believe that there’s nothing wrong with working a little make-up based magic, especially if it boosts our self-esteem and gives us the self-confidence to love ourselves exactly as we are.
Without further ado, ladies, here is the Her.ie guide to beauty cheats to make you feel glam, fabulous and, most importantly, comfortable in your own skin.
The Aim: Naturally Flawless Skin
The Cheat: Moisturiser and Foundation
Does the thought of having a bare-faced day strike the fear of God into you? You’re not alone. Thankfully there is a sneaky way to highlight your natural beauty and the best thing? No one will realise you’re wearing make-up.
Get your usual daily moisturiser and mix in a small blob of your dewiest, glowiest foundation. Use your fingers to smooth it onto your face. The result? An even skin tone that literally glows and not a touch of make-up in sight. Sorted.
The Aim: A smaller nose
The Cheat: Contouring and Highlighting
Okay, so you wish your nose was smaller – before you go rushing off to the nearest plastic surgeon, we urge you to try the following. Invest in a specialised contouring powder, or use a natural brown-coloured eye shadow that is at least two shades darker than your natural skin tone.
With a small brush, sweep a thin line of the eye shadow down either side of your nose. Blend this in so you’re left with a faint shadow-like effect. Using the same brown eye shadow, take your brush and make a V-shape on the tip of your nose. Blend again.
Take a liquid highlighter or use a light natural-coloured eyeshade to draw a line down the centre of your nose. Blend it in so the front of your nose has a light shimmer.
All this contouring will create the illusion that your nose is smaller than it actually is.
The Aim: Banish a double-chin
The Cheat: Bronzing powder
Get a bronzer that is slightly darker than your natural skin tone and sweep it under your jawline. This will instantly make your chin look smaller and it will case your jawline to ‘pop’ giving your face a more sculpted look.
The Aim: Razor-sharp cheekbones
The Cheat: Blush and Contour
To start, suck in your cheeks so that you can clearly see the hollows. Take your blusher and apply it along the top of your cheekbone (the part that sticks out when you suck in). Get a contour shade (either specialised powder or eye shadow) and sweep it onto the hollows of your cheek. Blend it in a horizontal direction.
This will instantly highlight your cheekbones and make them look more pronounced than they are. Your face will also appear slimmer.
The Aim: Wake up eyes
The Cheat: Bright eye shadow
After you’ve applied your usual eye shadow, get the lightest, whitest eye shadow you have and brush it onto the inner corner of your eyes. The result is an instant pick up that will make your eyes brighter and get rid of any tiredness that’s lurking there.
The Aim: Arched brows
The Cheat: Highlighter
Just got your brows done and want to highlight your new shape? Grab a highlighter and dab a small bit under the highest part of your eyebrow (the bit in the middle). Blend it ever-so-slightly. Your arches will be highlighted and your brows will look impeccably groomed as a result.
