Tried & Tested: Skin Illuminating Rice Facial by Kerstin Florial at Lyrath Estate

Rebecca McKnight

Situated on rolling greens just outside the buzzing heart of Kilkenny city, the Lyrath Estate Hotel and Spa is an oasis of calm from first sight.

Fitting, then, that the hotel spa is actually named Oasis too.

It’s here that Her.ie headed for recently to try a new and exclusive signature treatment; the Skin Illuminating Rice Facial by Kerstin Florian.

Across a weekend of wining, dining and generally being treated like a queen, beauty fans will be quick to agree that the new addition to the spa menu is the jewel in an already sparkling crown.

The treatment was custom designed for Lyrath by Kerstin Florian and is exclusive to Oasis Spa. For the sum of €120, you can escape the world for an hour and a half of utter bliss.

The new treatment has been designed to illuminate skin, delivering a fresher, brighter and more hydrated appearance.

Step one is an exfoliating enzyme peel, the tingling sensation of which will delight those who like to really feel their beauty products at work.

Step two is a cleansing massage with concentrated serum C+ infusion. That burst of pure Vitamin C is a godsend to skin, particularly as the weather changes and we’re caught in a blizzard one minute and baking in front of central heating the next.

Finally comes the rice. Step three of the treatment is the application of a unique cooling masque with luminous rice that penetrates vitamins and nutrients deep within the skin, leaving your complexion radiant and rejuvenated. That’s without even mentioning the foot and pressure point scalp massage you’ll enjoy while the products work their magic.

They say:

The team from Oasis Spa said they wanted a new offering for customers that was results driven – giving immediate results that last. They wanted something brightening for the skin, as dull and lacklustre skin is a major complaint for many clients. It also needed to be suitable for even the most sensitive skin types. Finally, it needed to feel luxurious.

We say:

This treatment makes for a very happy marriage of nature and science. From pineapple enzymes in exfoliation to soothing oat flour and algae, the experts at Kerstin Florian have used everything at their disposal to deliver a facial that shows results on the spot, but a treatment that keeps working long after you’ve checked out and headed on your merry way.

I visited Oasis Spa not long after a sun holiday where my skincare was probably not 100%. Added to long days in the office with air-conditioning on all day and a less than stellar diet, they couldn’t have found a better candidate to test this treatment.

After an hour and a half of truly magical me time, I looked in the mirror to happily find skin that was immediately brighter and tighter looking, smoother and more dewy to the touch. Unlike other facials, I was able to get made up and head for dinner the same evening with no visible marks/redness, but the benefits to my skin were still visible weeks later. I can’t wait to return.
