First things first, I’m a natural brunette having grown out my blonde hair when I was five. Since then the closest thing I have come to going blonde is a few subtle highlights.
And while it is said that every girl should go completely blonde at least once in their lives, I’m just not sure it’s worth it. As with everything, I decided to weigh up the pros and cons.
FOR: It comes down to that age-old saying that blondes have more fun. And yes I do see blondes giggling and flicking their hair whilst enjoying cocktails with a host of male admirers. What a life!
AGAINST: Brunettes and redheads tend to look more classical and have an air of mystery surrounding them. Ooh, what secrets am I concealing? Wouldn’t you like to know!
FOR: Some of Hollywood’s hottest, including the original blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe, are blond. Let’s face it we would give anything to look like Charlize Theron or Blake Lively.
AGAINST: The Duchess of Cambridge and Princess of Style Kate Middleton is not blonde and we love her just the way she is!
FOR: It would be fantastic to have a complete hairstyle change which would transform my look and style. Think of the possibilities!
AGAINST: One of my friends tried to go blonde but instead her hair went grey and she suffered an onslaught of jibes as a result. Unfortunately my hair is in the same colour range as hers.
FOR: Blondes do exude glitz and glamour. And the introduction of new colour probably would revitalise my hair giving it a new and much-needed lease of life.
AGAINST: Getting my roots done every few months would be extremely annoying and very expensive. Unless of course somebody out there wants to fund my transformation?
FOR: Going blonde would be in keeping with the summer season and would look fabulous with a tan and bikini.
AGAINST: Realistically summer only lasts two months, or should I say two weeks! I haven’t magically forgotten that I live in Ireland.
FOR: If I was blonde it would cover up any stray grey hairs I have and would be a more natural transition to all-over grey.
AGAINST: At the tender age of 23 I wasn’t exactly planning on going completely grey for another few years yet. Well at least I won’t if I have anything to do with it!
By the time I’ve gathered my thoughts and had this debate with myself, a blonde would probably have gone out and returned from a night filled with lots of fun and hair-flicking! It is clear then that I’m by no means a natural blonde and couldn’t possibly hope to live up to the hype. Guess highlights will just have to do…
