Take a Brow: How to Make the Most of Your Eyebrows

They are one of the most underrated features of the face but eyebrows can and should be more prominent. Find out how to make your brows the centre of attention.

Some women have long ones. Some have thick ones. Some even look like they don’t have any at all. We’re talking about eyebrows and more importantly what you can do to make the most of them.

If, like us, you ignore them for the majority of the time, you could be missing out on a trick because well looked after eyebrows can make all the difference.

Want to know what you can do to maximise your eyebrow potential? We bet you do…

1. Waxing/Threading

It depends on the individual but you should roughly get your eyebrows professionally waxed or threaded every four to six weeks. This will help to keep them tidy and will also give your eyebrows the shape they need. Just one tip, it’s probably best to avoid the beautician at that time of the month, the old pain threshold tends to be lower then.

2. Plucking

Between appointments, you should pluck any stray hairs in order to maintain the shape of your eyebrows for as long as possible. Use good quality tweezers and to avoid more pain than is necessary, do it when you get out of the shower. The pores are more open at this time therefore it’s not as sore. And whatever you do, don’t over-pluck!

3. Tinting

Has anyone ever told you that you have no eyebrows? Well they’ve told us so if you’re in the same boat, you might want to consider going for an eyebrow tint. Like hair, you can dye your eyebrows so that they appear fuller, or in our case, at all. You can get it done at the same time as your wax. Who doesn’t love a good two birds, one stone scenario?

4. Eyebrow pencil

You can also give your eyebrows a bit of colour definition at home. All you need is an eyebrow pencil. Use the pencil to fill in your brows by doing light soft strokes which follow the direction of the hair. Make sure you don’t use too dark a colour and follow the natural shape of your brow. As with all makeup, blend it so that it looks natural.

5. Brow gel

This product will help to keep your eyebrows in shape and looking good for longer. Hairspray is also known to achieve the same effect if you don’t fancy splashing out on a separate product (just make sure to close your eyes with it). Although brow gel is available in a tinted option as well if you want to avoid paying for tinting and don’t like using an eyebrow pencil.

Who would have thought that you could do so much with your eyebrows? And trust us, it will make the difference but as always, it takes time and practice. So before your big night out, have a few test runs to perfect the look.
