To celebrate the release of The Huntsman: Winter’s War make-up artist Tara O’Farrell has opened the beauty books of evil Queen Ravenna and Ice Queen Freya to take us through a guide to achieving their beautiful make-up looks.
The Huntsman: Winter’s War hits Irish cinemas on April 4th and tells the story that came before Snow White. Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron reprise their roles from Snow White and the Huntsman, joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain.
Charlize Theron stars as evil Queen Ravenna, who betrays her sister Freya (Emily Blunt) with an unforgivable act, freezing Freya’s heart to love and unleashing in her an icy power. Retreating to a kingdom far to the north, Freya raises an army of Huntsmen as her protectors, with the only rule that no two of them should ever fall in love.
Here are step-by-step guides to getting both make-up looks as seen on the two Queens.
The Evil Queen

1. Queen Ravenna’s has a gorgeous golden glow to her skin. To get the look, mix a liquid highlighter with a foundation and apply. Set with a light dusting of translucent powder on the T-zone.
2. To add warmth to the skin, apply a matte bronzer in the shape of a 3 down both sides of the face. This sculpts and adds definition. Add a pop of peachy toned blusher to the apples of the cheek and a highlighter to the high points of the face.

3. The eyes are the main feature for this look. We’ve applied Inglot Pigment no.22 all over the lid to give a nice shimmery base before lining the water and lash line with black eyeliner.
To add some depth, use a matte brown shadow in the socket and under the eye to really make them pop. Finishing off the eyes, we applied gold leaf with Inglot Duraline to really wow.

4. To define the brows, brush them through with a brown brow gel.

5. Make the lips neutral to keep the eyes the focus. We used Wet’n’Wild lipstick (Just Peachy) with some gloss on top (Berry Blast).

The Ice Queen
1. To achieve the glistening cool toned skin of Queen Freya, mix a primer with a liquid highlighter and apply before adding foundation for a flawless coverage. To add some definition, use a cream contour palette.
2. To set the base apply a small amount of translucent powder onto the t-zone. Then add a cool highlight to the cheekbone and on the cupid’s bow and in the tear duct.
3. For the eyes, apply a dark silver metallic eyeshadow all over the eyelid and underneath the lash line. Apply a nude eyeliner along the waterline to add brightness to the eyes. We used Charlotte Tilbury (Eye Cheat) and finished off with two coats of black mascara.
4. To define the brows, brush them through with a brown brow gel.
5. For the lips, simply add some gloss. We’ve used a Cailyn Cosmetics Gloss (no.11).
