Looking and feeling good doesn’t have to cost the earth.

If the long list of unpronounceable ingredients on the back of your favourite beauty products leaves you cold, why not have a go at some homemade remedies for a pampering evening the natural way? Treat yourself to a facial or perfect that pout from the comfort of your own home.

Lip smacking good

After your nighttime cleansing routine, use an old toothbrush and some Vaseline to rid your lip of dead skin. If you don’t have an old toothbrush, a soft towel will do the trick. Before bed, apply a few drops of pure almond oil to the lips and leave overnight to wake up to pucker perfect lips.

Mane attraction

When washing your hair, add two tablespoons of cider vinegar to your last rinse. The acetic acid helps to remove product build-up in your hair, something beauty fans will almost certainly suffer from, and it leaves a lovely shine.

Put the puff to rest

If puffy eyes and dark circles are your problem then a cuppa might be the solution. Soak some green tea teabags then place in the fridge. Once cooled, lie down and place the teabags on your eyes. The caffeine will help to shrink the appearance of blood vessels and reduce puffiness. As another option, raw potatoes will do the same thing.

Scrub it up

Skip an expensive body scrub and use some almond oil in brown sugar for the exact same results. Use all over the body to buff away dry or dead skin cells, and concentrate especially on your poor neglected feet so you can have them ready for your dancing shoes in no time.

Dear dairy

One of the easiest facemasks to make at home is a yogurt treatment. Use the plain, full-fat variety, and add two tablespoons of honey. Spread evenly across the face and leave for 15 minutes before removing with a warm, damp washcloth. This treatment is great for clearing and disinfecting pores, acne prevention and moisturising dehydrated skin.
