Gastronomic voyeurism or just simply watching people tuck into their food online, is the latest Internet craze in South Korea.
A Korean woman, Park Seo-Yeon, is a professional eater but not in the competitive sense. Instead of scoffing huge amounts of food down in minutes, she broadcasts herself live, chatting and eating food from the comfort of her home.
It’s reported that she earns over $9000 a month from audiences who watch her eat.
Known as “The Diva”, Park broadcasts up to three hours every day. She says that the people who tune into her shows: “enjoy the vicarious pleasure when they can’t eat this much or don’t want to eat food at night or are on a diet.”
Time reports that there are over 3,500 food-eating shows in Korea, with some that are sponsored by certain restaurants. Below, a look into Park’s new occupation:
