What a guy.

17-year-old Rudy Hummel has committed to sleeping outside for a year regardless the of weather conditions in a bid to help the homeless.

The teenager from Minnesota is hoping to raise awareness for both Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organisation that builds shelter for those without a place to call home and Hawk Ridge Observatory which protects migratory birds.

Rudy started his project sleeping in a treehouse but when the weather took a turn for the worse he built a shelter made of frozen water crystals known as a quinzhee, which is where he’’s sleeping every night.

With the help of his parents, Rudy is taking precautions to protect himself from the bitter cold.

He has consulted with winter camping experts, uses a special outlet for lights and wears several layers of socks.

Snore Outdoors is a website Rudy has set up to explain his idea and detail his progress.
